A diffusion model analysis of the effects of aging on recognition memory
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effects of aging on response time were examined in a recognition memory experiment with young, college age subjects and older, 60–75 year old subjects. The older subjects were slower than the young subjects but almost as accurate. Ratcliff s (1978) diffusion model was fit to the data and it provided a good account of response times, their distributions, and accuracy values. The fits showed a 100ms slowing of the nondecision components of response time for older subjects relative to young subjects, and roughly equal response criteria settings with accuracy instructions but more conservative settings for the older subjects with speed instructions. In the diffusion model, the decision process is driven by the rate of accumulation of evidence from the stimulus. We found that the rate of accumulation for older subjects was a non-significant 7% lower than the rate for young subjects, indicating that the output from recognition memory entering the decision process was not significantly worse for the older subjects. The results are compared to those obtained from letter discrimination, brightness discrimination, and signal detection-like tasks. 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Memory enhancement and protective effects of crocin against D-galactose aging model in the hippocampus of Wistar rats
Objective(s): The neurodegeneration and loss of memory function are common consequences of aging. Medicinal plants have potent protective effects against chronic neurodegenerative diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the beneficial effects and molecular mechanisms of crocin on brain function in D-galactose (D-gal)-induced aging model in rats. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rat...

Background and objectives: Hesperetin (Hst), aglycone form of hesperidin, is reported to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities. On the other hand, the latest nanoparticle technology can help to improve the bioavailability of Hst, which is affected by the final particle size and stability. Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease, character...

Recent studies in affective computing are focused on sensing human cognitive context using biosignals. In this study, electrooculography (EOG) was utilized to investigate memory recall accessibility via eye movement patterns. 12 subjects were participated in our experiment wherein pictures from four categories were presented. Each category contained nine pictures of which three were presented t...
متن کاملP1: Dextran Curcumin Promotes Novel Object Recognition Memory in Rats after Ischemic Stroke
Ischemic stroke causes the depletion of energy and induces excitotoxicity and neuroinflammation in the brain that results from thrombotic blockage. Cerebral ischemia leads to many types of memory loss, including impairment of working, spatial and object recognition memoreis. Curcumin shows strong anti-oxidoinflammatory activities but it terapathics limited by its low solubility in water and cor...

Background: Most studies have investigated the effect of brain pathological aging on information recall and recognition memory performance of patients (by using a yes/no procedure), and for this reason, provide a partial picture of memory deficits and other factors involved in recognition memory such as discriminability and response bias are not considered. In this regard, the aim of present st...
